  • The simplest, safest and most convenient way to upgrade your 9x.

No soldering, splicing (or sweating) required. We have everything you need in one easy to buy kit.

Upgrading our first 9x was a real hassle. We found good instructions on the Internet, but acquiring all the necessary parts was a real nightmare. We had to order from multiple stores from around the world, deal with backorders, and then work on our soldering skills.

Fortunately, those days are no more. We've made a kit that makes this upgrade plug-and-play easy. The only tool required is a phillips screwdriver.

    What's in the box?

     – The centerpiece of this upgrade kit is the SmartieParts Rev 2.3 solderless programmer with LED backlight support. The programmer enables you to plug your transmitter into a PC or Mac computer through a standard mini-USB cable. Once connected it is easy to upgrade your firmware to er9x or Open9x. Additionally you can download model templates and backup your configurations.

     – LED Backlight Kit - Everything you need to add a bright (but efficient) white backlight to your 9x LCD panel. This unit is fully compatible with the SmartieParts programmer and the backlight software controls found in er9x and open9x. No modifications are needed as the backlight has already been updated with the correct connector to plug into the SmartieParts board.

This upgrade kit + 9x Battery Kit make the perfect combo. You can't beat the functionality, ease of use, or value. When you are ready to take your 9x to the next level, also consider the FrSKY Transmitter module and Receivers upgrade to extend the range, add telemetry and failsafe, as well as robustness through its antennae diversity.

The 9x DIY Upgrade Kit is compatible with most 9x radios that have a "version 2" motherboard. Every 9x radio we have sold in the past is a version 2. If you already own a 9x, please check before ordering. There are images online that can help you determine which motherboard you have, or you can watch our installation video that covers this. -- Older versions of the upgrade kit included ThumbSticks and color coded switch covers. Unfortunately due to cost and supply issues, we are not able to include these in the current kit.
